SHREWSBURY, NJ — A well-known TV host and comedian recently paid a visit to a Jersey Shore pizzeria.

“All five locations were insane, and I appreciate you guys waiting and being patient with all of us,” Grippo said. “...Thank you! Come see us for today, all locations — yesterday we had Jon Stewart in Shrewsbury. That was great.”

In an interview with NJ.com, Grippo told reporters that he was at Brooklyn Square Pizza’s Jackson location when he got a FaceTime call from his partner telling him that Stewart was at the Shrewsbury location.

According to the report, Stewart showed up after placing an online order and urged the staff at the Shrewsbury shop to give Grippo a call.

“He was a regular, you know, not pretentious, very humble,” Grippo told NJ.com. "
From what they were telling me, he was a gentleman. He was just laughing, throwing jokes, waiting in line patiently like everybody else did."

Known for hosting Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” Stewart is also a producer, writer and actor with multiple Emmys, Grammys and more.

His visit to Brooklyn Square Pizza follows the recent grand opening of their Shrewsbury location, which joins four other shops in Jackson, Manalapan, Toms River and Bradley Beach.

According to the pizzeria website, a sixth location is set to open soon at 460 County Road 520, Marlboro.

“As a first-generation Italian, our owner, Pietro ‘Peter’ Grippo, was raised with strong Caggianese values and traditions,” the website reads. “Since 2001, he's owned and operated pizza places founded on a love and passion for the same Italian food his mother would prepare for him.”

After Grippo was unexpectedly diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, the same cancer his father passed away from 20 years prior, he made a commitment to fight and never give up, and today runs five Brooklyn Square Pizza locations that operate on “that same conviction to remember the important things in life.”
