UPS Announces Credit/Debit Card Breach at Middletown Store

The breach affected 51 stores in 24 states, including three in New Jersey.

The UPS Store in Middletown was one of three in New Jersey that have fallen victim to malware that could result in the theft of personal information, the UPS Store announced on Wednesday.

A total of 51 stores in 24 states were affected between Jan. 20 and Aug. 11 of this year. Anyone who used their debit or credit card at these locations during this time may have fallen victim. The malware was eliminated on Aug. 11.

The UPS Store in Cherry Hill, located at 1385 Route 35, was affected between April 29 and Aug. 11.

Stores in Cherry Hill and Lopatcong were the other two New Jersey locations affected.

Personal information that may have been compromised includes name, postal address, email address and card payment information, but not all of this information may have been compromised for all affected customers.

“I understand this type of incident can be disruptive and cause frustration. I apologize for any anxiety this may have caused our customers. At The UPS Store the trust of our customers is of utmost importance,” Tim Davis, President The UPS Store, Inc., said. “As soon as we became aware of the potential malware intrusion, we deployed extensive resources to quickly address and eliminate this issue. Our customers can be assured that we have identified and fully contained the incident.”

Each UPS Store is independently owned and is not connected to other UPS Store locations.

The UPS Store is providing an information website, identity protection and credit monitoring services to customers whose information may have been compromised.
