1 Dead In Ridgewood Fire: Prosecutor

Authorities have identified 66-year-old Sharon Maes as the woman who died in the fire. They are investigating the cause.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The Ridgewood Police Department and Bergen County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the cause of a house fire that left one person dead Monday morning.

Authorities have identified the victim as 66-year-old Sharon Maes.

The Ridgewood Police Department received a report of a house fire at 255 North Pleasant Avenue at approximately 12:55 a.m. Monday.

Members of the Ridgewood Fire Department located the fire in the kitchen area, and found Maes unresponsive in the living room as they battled the fire.

Maes, the homeowner, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton, and the Ridgewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Jacqueline Luthcke.

The cause of the fire "does not appear to be suspicious" at this time, authorities said.
