4 Charged In Double Murder At Meadowlands Racetrack

Four Jersey City men were arrested after police say the group shot and killed two others before fleeing in a stolen Audi Sunday night.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — Two men are dead after a Sunday night shooting at the Meadowlands Racetrack, New Jersey State Police announced Monday.

Now, three Jersey City men and a minor are charged with murder and additional weapons charges.

State Police say Tariq Gathers, 24, Victor Geslicki, 19, Nyshun Morris, 19, and a 16-year-old male were arrested after a state trooper heard gunshots while patrolling the racetrack complex.

Police found a 22-year-old male passenger and a 21-year-old male driver with gunshot wounds. The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene, while the driver was taken to an area hospital, but died later that night, police said.

After hearing the shots, the trooper assigned to the area observed three men entering an Audi SUV before fleeing the scene.

After it was determined that the SUV was reported stolen out of Tenafly, the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled.

He didn't make it far, however.

While trying to get onto State Highway 120, the driver hit a cement divider and the car became disabled, police said.

The chase didn't end there, though, as all four occupants on the car fled on foot, before eventually being apprehended.

Detectives recovered two firearms from the vehicle, according to police.

Gathers, Geslicki, Morris and the 16-year-old are charged with murder, weapons possession and receiving stolen property.

The minor was lodged at the Bergen County Youth Correctional Facility, while Gathers, Geslicki, and Morris were lodged at the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.

According to officials, detectives believe the group may have committed other crimes in the area, but didn't expand on what they could be.
