5 Charged With Carjacking Man In Target Parking Lot In Edgewater

Five men were arrested in connection with a late-night carjacking in the parking lot of a Bergen County Target store.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Five men from around New Jersey were charged with carjacking on Wednesday in connection with an April incident in which they allegedly forced a man out of his car in a Target parking lot in Bergen County and drove away in his car.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of Dustin Robalino, 19, of Bayonne, Gilberto Roman, 19, of Carteret, Wilkins Furment, 19, of Jersey City, Jimmy Ruiz, 18, who was already in the Hudson County Jail, and Giancarlo Rodriguez, 26, of Paterson.

They were arrested on charges of carjacking, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated
assault, and theft.

Prosecutors said that on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at approximately 3:35 a.m., the Edgewater Police Department received a report of an armed carjacking that occurred in the parking lot of
the Target retail store on River Road.

Five male suspects, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, approached the victim and forcibly removed him from his vehicle, prosecutors said.

The suspects assaulted the victim and stole his vehicle, chain necklace, and cell phone, prosecutors said.

The Edgewater Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special
Investigations Squad, and a joint investigation was initiated.

After an investigation led to the identification of the suspects, they were arrested Wednesday without incident. Ruiz was served with an arrest warrant and processed at the Hudson County Jail.

The four men who were not incarcerated were taken to the Bergen County Jail. They await their first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Prosecutor Mark Musella thanked the Hudson County Regional SWAT team, Middlesex County Regional SWAT team, Edgewater Police Department, and New Jersey FBI Violent Crimes Task Force for their assistance with the investigation.
