8 Ridgewood Crew Boats Advance To National Championship

The girls and boys teams finished with the first and second most points at the Garden State Scholastic Championship Regatta Saturday.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Eight Ridgewood Crew boats won their respective races at the Garden State Scholastic Championship Regatta Saturday.

The girls team scored the most team points with 102 and the boys team was next with 97.

  • Charlie Koontz, varsity
  • Sam Daspin and Spencer Campbell, lightweight
  • Ed Hida, Alex Saladucha, Joe O'Keefe and Henry Koontz, junior varsity
  • Claire Callaghan and Jordan Witmaack, varsity
  • Bella DeGreggorio, Chloe Young, Amanda Perez and Melissa Dexter, varsity
  • Maddy Phillips and Emily Gilman, lightweight
  • Alexandra Walton-Roth and Maddie Gibson, junior varsity
  • Nicole Kye, Holly Sisco, Anna Soderlund and Lexi Liu, freshman

Four teams finished second:

  • Ainsley Wilkinson, Angela Chaikovsky, Sarine Arzomanian and Claudia Ricotta, junior varsity
  • Drew Johnson and Alex Melarti, junior varsity
  • Tommy Montgomery, Gabe Martinez, David Yang and Dylan Park, freshman
  • Kaiyo Okamura, Martin Carmona, Danny Lerner and Frank Orlando, novice

The varsity team of Sebastian Rivero, Andrew Felix, Matt Seiter and Walter Freidrich finished in third place.

The team will travel to the City Championships in Philadelphia for a two-day event Saturday and Sunday.
