PARAMUS, NJ — After a man was found dead in a Paramus home Friday, prosecutors have charged a younger man with his murder.
Melvin Thomas, 32, of Paramus has been charged with first-degree murder, as well as desecration of human remains, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon, and hindering, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
On Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at approximately 5:40 p.m., the Paramus Police Department responded to to 693 Bruce Drive, Paramus, on the report of a possible homicide, they said.
They found 61-year-old Manuel V. Thomas in the basement of the residence, they said.
Thomas had sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene, they said.
Melvin Thomas was identified as a suspect shortly afterward and taken into police custody in Paramus.
He has been taken to Bergen County Jail to await his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
The prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit and the Paramus Police Department are investigating.
