BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County man has been arrested for stabbing his 74-year-old father multiple times, according to prosecutors.
Sean McAvinue, 42, of Wallington, faces several charges, including attempted murder, following the weekend incident.
On Saturday, just before 11 a.m., police were called to a Wallington home on Strong Street on reports of a medical emergency.
Authorities found the 74-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital to be treated for critical injuries.
Police also found McAvinue outside of the residence, covered in blood with an injury to his hand, officials said.
An investigation revealed that McAvinue had stabbed his father a total of eight times in the head, torso, and legs using multiple kitchen knives, according to prosecutors.
McAvinue was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The victim has since been upgraded to stable condition, authorities added.
It’s not clear at this time what prompted the alleged attack.
McAvinue is being held by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office while awaiting court proceedings.
