BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man has been arrested for carjacking an 80-year-old woman in a Walgreens parking lot in Bergenfield, police said.
Police said that just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, they were called to 406 South Washington Ave. on a report of a carjacking.
Police found an 80-year-old woman from River Edge who suffered minor injuries.
The police were told that while the woman was sitting in her parked car — a 2017 grey Jeep Cherokee — a man demanded her keys. She refused.
The man forced her out of the car and grabbed her purse, police said.
He climbed into the car and drove toward Teaneck. Police sent alerts to nearby towns.
The Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps brought the woman to Hackensack University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Based on information from witnesses, police identified Jordan Rucker, 35, from Bergenfield as a suspect.
Around 9:30 a.m., Teaneck police said they had stopped the Jeep on East Forest Avenue in Teaneck.
Bergenfield police arrived and arrested Rucker. They also found that he had a four-inch knife.
Rucker was charged with carjacking, robbery, simple assault, motor vehicle theft, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, and theft by unlawful taking, police said.
Police had no further details on Tuesday.
