HACKENSACK, NJ — A man was arrested in Hackensack last week after he punched a relative, then attacked police who tried to intervene, officials said.
Rashaun A. Hawes, 34, of Leesburg, was charged on May 4 with aggravated assault on a police officer and domestic violence simple assault, said the Hackensack police.
The Hackensack police said that around 1:30 a.m. that day, they responded to a noise complaint on Main Street and saw four men arguing on the sidewalk.
One of them, Hawes, got into a car and repeatedly punched a male relative who was in the car, police said.
Hawes was arrested and brought to police headquarters, where he spat on officers, kicked the computer desk, physically resisted entering a cell, and refused to be fingerprinted, police said.
While being taken to jail, Hawes kicked the interior door panel of the police car until it broke, police said.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
