BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A student at Lincoln Technical Institute in Paramus was arrested Wednesday after he took a gun that a security guard had left in the bathroom, police said.

Jayden Combs, 18, of Elmwood Park was charged with theft of lost property and possession of a weapon, said Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti.

As reported in Patch, the technical school — located at the Bergen Town Center shopping center — was briefly locked down on Wednesday after a security guard said he couldn't find his gun.
Police responded around 11:40 a.m. to investigate.

The investigation revealed that the guard, a 53-year-old Oakland resident, inadvertently left his Glock 43 9mm handgun unattended inside a stall of a men’s restroom at around 9:20 a.m.

Paramus Police Detective Joshua Capizzi conducted interviews and reviewed surveillance footage. Police determined that Combs had found the gun and left campus.

Around 9 p.m., Capizzi and Det. Lt. Michael Cebulski recovered the Glock 43 handgun from inside a school backpack in Elmwood Park, police said.

The lockdown and investigation did not affect the other businesses at the shopping center, Guidetti said.
