BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Rochester, N.Y. woman was arrested Monday night after a Ford Mustang was found on fire in Bergen County, officials said.
Lilly J. Hammond, 27, was charged with arson, criminal mischief, and contempt of court, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday.
Prosecutors said that on Monday, around 7:44 p.m., the Wallington police and fire departments responded to a car fire in the area of Lincoln Place in Wallington.
They found a 2004 Ford Mustang fully engulfed in flames and extinguished the fire.
County arson detectives and police investigated and determined that Hammond had intentionally set the car on fire, prosecutors say.
Aside from the other charges, she was also charged with fourth-degree failure to control or report a dangerous fire.
She was placed in the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors declined to give out additional details about the case.
