HACKENSACK, NJ — A Hackensack man was arrested Tuesday after a child swallowed a fentanyl pill he left inside a house, prosecutors said.

Oluwatobi "Tobi" A. Bamisile, 34, was charged with fentanyl possession and endangering the welfare of a child, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said that shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday, Hackensack police and firefighters headed to a private home after getting a report of a medical emergency involving a child.

They found the child unresponsive.

They began life-saving measures, including administering naloxone, a medication that often goes by the brand name Narcan, used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioids.

First responders revived the child, who was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment.

An investigation determined that two other children also came into contact with the pills inside the house. One of those children put the pill into their mouth before spitting it out, prosecutors said.

The investigation determined that Bamisile had left the pills in an area accessible to children.

Bamisile was charged with three counts of each of the two offenses.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, prosecutors said.
