GARFIELD, NJ — A police officer in Bergen County was arrested Thursday on a charge of witness tampering, prosecutors said.
Anthony M. Pizzi, 30, a sergeant in the Garfield Police Department, was charged with third-degree tampering with witnesses, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Officials said that on April 16, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information regarding alleged tampering during an administrative investigation being conducted by the Garfield Police Department.
Investigators determined that Pizzi told a Garfield police officer to provide false information to internal affairs investigators "in an effort to tamper with the facts and outcome of the investigation."
After being charged, Pizzi was released to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in
Hackensack.
