Police said that shortly after 6 a.m., troopers responded to I‑80 East near milepost 68 in Teaneck.

A preliminary investigation determined that De Los Santos was driving an Acura eastbound on I‑80 when he lost control of the car, veered to the right, and hit a concrete barrier. The car burst into flames, Lebron said.

De Los Santos and his four passengers, including a child, were taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Besides DUI, De Los Santos was charged with four counts of assault by auto and a count of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available, Lebron said.
