BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two men have been charged in an armed robbery on a Garfield street in March, prosecutors said.
Kahmere C. Chambers, 22, and David Reid, 26, both of Paterson, have been charged in the gunpoint holdup, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said that just after 12:30 a.m. on March 1, a Sunday morning, the pair held up two victims who had just come out of an establishment in the area of Monroe Street. The victims were walking with several acquaintances, officials said.
The duo stole one victim's car keys, wallet, and approximately $20 cash, prosecutors said.
The pair then fled on foot. Surveillance footage showed they later got into a white Infiniti Q60, prosecutors said.
On April 16, prosecutors and a SWAT Team searched residences in Montvale and Paterson, as well as a white Infiniti, all associated with Chambers, officials said.
Detectives discovered a defaced handgun containing a large capacity ammunition magazine, prosecutors said.
Chambers was taken into custody without incident, prosecutors said. He was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery and several weapons charges.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail, where he remains in custody to await a trial, prosecutors said.
On June 17, Reid was taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, and other weapons charges.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
