BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A chaotic chase in Bergen County ended this weekend after the driver ended up backing up directly into a police car, officials say.
On Sunday, around 2:45 p.m., police spotted a Toyota Camry driving recklessly on North Street in Teterboro.
Police attempted to pull the Toyota over, which was running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road, according to officials.
A chase ensued, and the Toyota continued onto Route 17, Route 80 West, and eventually the Garden State Parkway in an attempt to lose the pursuing officers, officials said.
Eventually, the Toyota pulled a U-turn near the Bergen toll and tried to drive the wrong way on the Route 80 exit ramp, according to police.
One officer positioned his car to block the Toyota from entering Route 80 the wrong way. Once the Toyota stopped, it veered off into reverse, slamming into a pursuing officer's squad car.
After the collision, the chase ended, and police arrested the driver, Maya Murad, 46, of Lodi.
Murad was charged with resisting arrest, eluding, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and endangering another person. She was also issued a slew of motor vehicle violations.
She was taken to Bergen County Jail to await court proceedings.
