BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A driver was seriously injured this weekend after a car was launched into the air on the Garden State Parkway in Bergen County, police say.
On Friday, around 4:30 p.m., police were called to the Garden State Parkway south at milepost 167.8 in Washington Township on reports of a crash.
Authorities discovered that a Toyota SUV driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway to the left, sped down a grass median, hit several trees, became airborne, and struck an upward-sloping embankment, police say.
The driver sustained "serious injuries" from the crash and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police are withholding the driver's name pending family notifications. The driver's condition was not clear as of Monday morning.
The crash is being investigated by the New Jersey State Police.
