BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County toddler died on Thursday after being found unresponsive in a back yard swimming pool, police said Friday.
Englewood Cliffs Police Lt. James Tracy said Friday that around 2:06 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a missing 3-year-old girl.

Police canvassing the area found the girl unresponsive in a nearby back yard pool, Tracy said.
Police began live saving measures. The girl was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
"There are no words that can adequately express the heartbreak of losing a child," Tracy said. "On behalf of the Englewood Cliffs Police Department, I extend our deepest condolences to the child's family and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time."
He added, "I also want to recognize the extraordinary efforts of the responding officers, as well as EMS and hospital staff who worked tirelessly and with tremendous compassion. This tragedy has deeply affected everyone involved, and our thoughts and prayers remain with the family."
