BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Police took a gulp out of crime in Bergen County on Wednesday when they arrested a man for stealing from a children's lemonade stand, officials said.

Police in Hasbrouck Heights charged Chapel D. Lighty, 35, of Bishopville, S.C., with one count of theft and with possession of a stolen credit card, they said Thursday.

According to Captain John Behr, on Wednesday afternoon, police got a call that an adult stole the proceeds from a lemonade stand being run by neighborhood children.

The suspect took off on foot, the caller said.

"This brought all available Hasbrouck Heights Patrol officers and detectives into the area for the search," Behr said.

Police obtained video from a nearby business and were able to see the incident, they said.

The man was observed walking south on Boulevard. Then, police say, he grabbed a plastic container with around $50 cash in it and fled.

Officers Sean Woodbridge, Anthony Rossillo, Kyle Delahanty, Sgt. Jarett Cooke, Det. Sgt. Nick Brunetti, Det. John Cambridge, and Captain Behr responded along with Wood-Ridge Officers Mike Donato and Det. Dave Marchitelli.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Cambridge saw someone matching the description in Woodland Park.

Police responded and arrested Bishop. He was found to have the container, the cash, and a stolen credit card.

Police clarified that the credit card was not from the lemonade stand.

Lighty was also wanted in Garfield, police said.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail.
