1. National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Named For Ridgewood, Glen Rock: See Who (patch.com) — Ridgewood families have reason to celebrate as several Ridgewood High School students were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, joining peers from Glen Rock in this year's highly competitive program. These juniors earned top PSAT scores in New Jersey and now advance to the next round, where their academic records and achievements will determine who receives four-year college scholarships.
2. How a North Jersey soccer power is handling life without its home turf (northjersey.com) — Ridgewood High School's stadium and Stevens Field are closed after flooding and failed safety tests, forcing the girls soccer team to relocate games and practices to Maple Park and school fields. Despite the disruption, the Maroons remain a top North Jersey contender, backed by strong community support and a possible 10‑day turf remediation that could restore their home field later this fall.
3. Gottheimer wants to give students a head start with K-12 AI labs (northjersey.com) — Ridgewood families should know Rep. Josh Gottheimer unveiled his proposed AI LABS Act in town, while the Ridgewood school district works to curb excess screen time for younger students. The bill would fund K-12 AI labs and teacher training, as local educators seek a balance between foundational skills and preparing kids for an AI-rich future.
4. Red Cross urges blood, platelet donations as supply remains vulnerable; New Jersey drives scheduled through September (wrnjradio.com) — Ridgewood residents can roll up their sleeves at a Red Cross blood drive on Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ridgewood YMCA on Oak Street. The organization says all blood types are urgently needed statewide this month, and donors can also receive small thank-you gifts on select September dates.
