BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two teachers' assistants at a Bergen County day care center were arrested on Wednesday for physically abusing children, prosecutors said.
Chillyann Spencer, 24, of Paterson and Deily Perez, 49, of the Bronx were both charged with endangering the welfare of a child, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office on Friday.
Prosecutors said that on Sept. 11, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims' Unit regarding the alleged physical assault of two children at a day care center in Hackensack.
An investigation by prosecutors and Hackensack police determined that Spencer and Perez, both teachers' assistants, physically abused two children on Sept. 9, prosecutors said.
A court document obtained by Patch said one of the children had a bruised torso, but did not reveal the childrens' ages or any additional details.
Detectives were able to review surveillance footage of the day care, according to the complaint.
The suspects were arrested this week and each charged with two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Both were taken to the Bergen County Jail and had their first appearances on Friday in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack. They were ordered released to await further court action.
