RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Fans of milk shakes, ice cream, and candy don't have to wait until Halloween to enjoy local sweets. The MilkShake Factory chain announced Wednesday that it will open its Ridgewood location in early October.
The spot will bring its handspun milkshakes, sundaes, and small-batch chocolates to downtown Ridgewood with a special celebration on Oct. 10, a Saturday.
MilkShake Factory Ridgewood plans to celebrate that day with a grand opening event from 12-4 p.m.
The day will include promotions and giveaways, including buy one, get one free offer on shakes, sundaes, and dessert cups.
The store will also give away MilkShake Factory T-shirts for the first 100 guests, and a gift basket for the first guest in line.
There will also be a DJ and giveaways throughout the afternoon.
The Ridgewood location will be owned and operated by franchisees Penn and Tara Miller-Jones, who used to enjoy the chain when they visited their son at the University of Pittsburgh.
"Downtown Ridgewood has such great energy and really brings people together," said Tara Miller-Jones.
The couple said that Ridgewood's downtown was a draw, as it's home to a wide variety of restaurants and shops, with foot traffic from around the area.
MilkShake Factory's menu features shake flavors like Chocolate Dipped Strawberry and Campfire S'mores. Every item is crafted with MilkShake Factory's ice cream, created fresh in the store each day using the Edwards family's exclusive recipe.
Founded in 1914, the company began as a small soda fountain and chocolate shop in Pittsburgh.
