Prosecutors said that on Friday, the Bogota Police Department contacted the Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault.
An investigation determined that Tapia sexually assaulted a girl under 15 in Bogota on three occasions.
He was arrested Oct. 6 and charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors said.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail, made a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, and was released to await further court action, prosecutors said.
