Authorities Seize 9 Kilos Of Heroin From Bergen Residents Following Traffic Stop: Prosecutor

$540,000 worth of suspected heroin was found in the car Luis Lopez and Alida Aguilera were in and their home, authorities said.

Two Bergen County residents were arrested and $540,000 worth of heroin was seized Thursday following an investigation by local, county, and state law enforcement officials, said Gurbir S. Grewal, Bergen County's acting prosecutor.

Law enforcement personnel investigated a vehicle parked at the Rite Aid at 151 Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights and found about four kilograms of suspected heroin in a bag belonging to the passengers, Luis Lopez, 21, and Alida Aguilera, 22, Grewal said in a news release.

Authorities found another five kilograms of suspected heroin in their Wood-Ridge home, the prosecutor said.

The suspected heroin was seized as a result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the New York and New Jersey divisions of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department, Grewal said.

Lopez and Aguilera were each charged with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely heroin, in a quantity of five ounces or more, a first-degree crime, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely heroin, within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, namely heroin, Grewal said.

Bail was set at $250,000 with no 10 percent option for both Lopez and Aguilera; they were both remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail, Grewal said.
