Bergen County Hotel Floods, Towns Dig Out After Nor'easter: See Photos

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Bergen County was digging out all weekend as a powerful nor'easter flooded roads, toppled trees, and stranded cars parked at a hotel on the Hudson River.

Dramatic photos emerged from the Comfort Inn parking lot in Edgewater, where the coastal storm raised the water level above the tires.

Desi Garrison, a front desk worker at the hotel, told Patch on Sunday night, "We are open."

"We are still taking guests, but the [lot is] still flooded. So we are telling guests to enter closer to the tennis court," she said.

She said the staff expects the water to go down. "We are making sure everyone is safe," she said.

Who Got Most Rain In Bergen County?

According to the National Weather Service, the damage began Saturday morning, early in the storm, when Rutherford Avenue flooded by 10:30 a.m. Portions of Route 17 flooded Sunday.

Winds over 40 MPH were recorded at Teterboro Airport on Sunday.

Roads were cleared by Monday morning, according to the Department of Transportation.

More rain was in the forecast for Monday, but was expected to end by 2 p.m.

Events Postponed

Several events planned for last weekend were postponed, including the kids' Safety Fest at the Hillsdale train station (now Oct. 3), and an event to mark the 248th anniversary of the Baylor Massacre in River Vale (now Oct. 11).
