Bergen Man Sexually Assaulted Girl, 8: Prosecutor

A Bergen County man was charged with sexual assault after he allegedly engaged in “inappropriate sexual activity” with an 8-year-old girl, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

Martin Alonso Lopez, 47, was arrested Tuesday after Bergenfield police learned he allegedly engaged in the inappropriate activity, Molinelli said.

Police officers told members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit about the alleged activity and Lopez was arrested, authorities said.

Lopez, a Bergenfield resident, was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, Molinelli said.

Lopez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $400,000 bail with no 10 percent option. If released on bail, he is to have no contact with the alleged victim and must turn in his passport.
