BREAKING UPDATE: One Killed As NJ Transit Train Strikes Car

The Pascack Valley Line service was suspended Thursday in both directions because of a motor vehicle strike near the Westwood station that killed a man in his 80s, according to NJ Transit.
News12 and CBS2 reported that one person was killed in the crash. NorthJersey.com reported the 87-year-old man, Vaclav W. Budak, lived in Stroudsberg, Pa. and was a former Ringwood resident.
NJ Transit buses and private bus carriers were cross-honoring tickets.

NJ TRANSIT spokeswoman Jennifer Nelson said the preliminary investigation shows
the driver, who was approximately in his late 80s, got on the tracks at the First Street crossing and drove along the tracks.
The train had left Spring Valley at 5:10 a.m. when it hit the car, which then burst into flames, according to CBS2.

There were 110 passengers on the train at the time, but no one on the train was hurt, according to the report. The passengers were taken to a nearby Stop and Shop parking lot, where they got on buses.
