The Bryan Hansen Band Releases New Album Gas Money
Hometown Performance Oct. 12 at Asbury Lanes
THE BRYAN HANSEN BAND TO CELEBRATE RELEASE OF ‘GAS MONEY’ WITH NEW JERSEY PERFORMANCE
New Jersey’s own Bryan Hansen Band is set to celebrate the release of their latest album, ‘Gas Money,’ with a homecoming performance on Saturday, October 12th- when they will headline a show at Asbury Lanes. Located at 209 4th Ave, Asbury Park, NJ, on a bill also featuring Zach Matari & The After Parti and Nick Ryan and The Mess (showtime is 7pm).
Best described as an adult alternative rock band, the trio is comprised of Bryan Hansen- Guitar, Lead Vocals, Will Blakey- Bass, Backing vocals, and Q- Drums, Backing vocals, the Bryan Hansen Band performs roughly 125-140 gigs per year, with the majority taking place in the Garden State - traveling from end to end of the state that they call home. As the band explained, “You can drive ten miles in any direction and see something different and beautiful, from the Shore to the Pine Barrens, and from the Watchung Reservation to the streets of Hoboken. Our state is unique and it's filled with hard working people. Three guys representing Edison, Hillside, and Newark just making it ‘Do, what it do.’ We are proud to rock New Jersey, our Home.”
And the 8-track strong ‘Gas Money’ (which you can preorder here - https://bryanhansenband.com/gas-money-pre-sale) contains its share of highlights, including the album-opening “Untitled #3.” “Why would we start the record off with a track called Untitled#3?,” asks Bryan. “The truth is, we titled this song multiple times and were never truly satisfied. It's random, but we are unpredictable. The chorus to this song presented itself to me when I visited Raptor Trust in Morris County New Jersey. The facility rehabilitates birds of prey, and one of the donors wrote the psalm: 'Even the dark will not be dark to you. The dark will shine like the day, for the dark is a light to you.' It was powerful and made me think about the loss of our late keyboardist Hank Rosenthal. This track comes out swinging. We believe it's the perfect start to this record.”
“‘Diamonds’ is undoubtedly one of our favorite songs on the album,” adds Will. “It is the 1st song that Bryan and I sat and worked on together. This song is truly a collaboration of us as a band. ‘Diamonds’ was born from a riff I created in order to practice multiple slap bass techniques in one. Bryan heard me play it once or twice and really liked it. When I began making demos for the new album, he asked if that riff was one of them. I told him ‘No,’ and he asked if I would make it one. So ‘Untitled#2,’ aka ‘Diamonds’ was born. Bryan and I met at his house and began to work on the song and it just seemed to grow wings and fly. Bryan had already come up with the rough outline for the lyrics and I remember saying that he had to sing the entire song in falsetto, as he played around with the idea at first. Once we brought the song to Q, he dropped the song right into that funky pocket that he is truly the master of and we knew this song was going to be great.”

And it turns out that Q also has a specific favorite track. “‘Waiting for Tomorrow’ was a song that Will had written way before it was brought to the table to be a song on our album. I always liked the song and asked Will would he ever put the song out on an album, to which he’d always reply ‘One Day.’ So when it was 1st brought to me, I was happy and excited to record the song, but after practicing and then recording the song, none of us liked how it came out. So I came up with the idea of turning the song into a house music style song. I have always loved house music and I figured out a way to give this song that same feel & energy by giving it a two step beat, while also keeping the integrity of the song as Will wrote it. After rehearsing the new and improved version, we ended up loving it, and re-recording it. So ‘Waiting For Tomorrow’ definitely gives you all something different from us than what you’d normally expect.”
The bands current single ‘Smiling Dashboard Jesus’described as a “a mellow groove song dedicated to the everyday working person. This is everyone’s Drinking Song.” Can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/B6H0TbvLZGQ
