 Held on the grounds of the Hermitage Museum, this event is open 10 am-4 pm and will feature gourmet food trucks and live music throughout the day. Join us and shop with many top-notch exhibitors selling quality items, arts and crafts, and collectibles. We handpick exhibitors for their unique items, handmade creations, start-ups, and well-groomed businesses, and together they create this posh marketplace.
Food &amp; Music Come Hungry we have all kinds of delicious foods being served! Stay awhile and enjoy the “Sounds of Richie G”, playing from 11:30 am-3:30 pm.
<a href="https://thehermitage.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Hermitage Museum</a> This is a historic house and museum that depicts over 250 years of New Jersey history. Visitors can tour the house, view their collections through various exhibitions, and participate in their educational programs and lectures. This museum is run by the Friends of the Hermitage Inc., which also organizes various events on the grounds of the Hermitage, attended by many participants.

The entrance fee is $5 per person. Under 12 is free. Parking is free at the museum’s parking area.

This presentation will provide an overview of the history of citizenship&nbsp;acquisition for women in the United States and the records that were generated from the Federal period to post–World War II. It will&nbsp;review key federal and state laws which&nbsp;shaped the naturalization of women and focus on examples of women—married, widowed, and single—who sought, obtained,&nbsp;or lost citizenship. Significant laws pertaining to naturalization for both men and women will be addressed, with a focus on laws specifically affecting women,&nbsp;including the&nbsp;Cable Act&nbsp;of 1922 (also known as the&nbsp;Married Women's Independent Nationality Act). Beginning in the mid–19th century, eligible immigrant women automatically derived citizenship through their American spouses. The presentation will also examine cases of women, both naturalized and native-born, who lost their citizenship after the implementation of the 1907&nbsp;Expatriation Act&nbsp;due to marriage to non-citizens—and how some were able to regain it in subsequent decades.
Speaker Joy Kestenbaum, MA, MLS, is a professional genealogist and historical&nbsp;research consultant. She has been the Vice President of Programming of the Jewish&nbsp;Genealogical Society, Inc. (New York) since 2015 and is a consulting genealogist at the Peter&nbsp;and Mary Kalikow Jewish Genealogy Research Center at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in&nbsp;New York City. She has lectured on family and local history, Jewish artists and architects, and&nbsp;historical buildings and landscapes at international conferences in the United States, England, and&nbsp;Germany, as well as for organizations in the Northeast. She previously served on the library and teaching faculty at Queens College (CUNY), Pratt Institute, and Purchase College (SUNY), and was also Director of the Gimbel Art and Design Library at The New School.

The Hermitage

This July 11th come experience American history firsthand as the members of Outwater’s Militia and other troops will be here on the grounds re-enacting the time that Washington’s troops actually stayed at the Hermitage in 1778.
There will be the firing of the muskets and doing drills. Interact with the troops and the many craftspeople doing demonstrations and showing their artifacts. Performances by Tricorne Dancers. Also there will be an on-going “Battle of Monmouth war game” for kids. And of course take a tour inside the historic Hermitage. It’s a fun, interactive day for the whole family!

This open forum invites participants to share stories of these conveniently forgotten ancestors, their secrets, and how families chose to remember (or forget) them. From criminal records and secret marriages to unexpected identities and enduring family legends, we’ll look at how some of the most fascinating branches of the family tree are often the ones left out of the family narrative.
