Ridgewood Choral Begins 99th Season, Invites Women to Join Its Musical Community

Bergen County – The Ridgewood Choral, an all-women’s chorus founded in 1928, is preparing to begin its 99th season and is inviting women who love to sing to become part of its long tradition of music and service. The chorus welcomes both experienced singers and those who may be returning to choral singing after many years.

Rehearsals are generally held Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, with occasional Wednesday rehearsals, at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood, NJ. The daytime rehearsal schedule is especially appealing to women who prefer not to drive at night, are recently retired, find daytime rehearsals more convenient while children are in school, or simply want to be part of a welcoming musical and social community.

The 2026–27 season will feature holiday concerts in December, followed by the chorus’s annual spring concert in April. The Ridgewood Choral’s holiday concert will feature a festive mix of traditional carols, beloved seasonal favorites and music from Jewish and Yiddish traditions. The spring concert will feature a selection of works written expressly for the Ridgewood Choral, highlighting the chorus’s unique musical heritage and nearly a century of commissioning and performing music created specifically for its singers. Throughout the season, Ridgewood Choral members share the joy of music through performances in the Ridgewood, NJ, and Pearl River, NY, communities, as well as at Van Dyk Park Place in Hawthorne.

No auditions are required to join. The only prerequisite is a genuine desire to sing and to share the experience of making music with others. The chorus is currently particularly interested in welcoming women who sing soprano or alto. If you’re not sure which voice part is right for you, don’t worry—the director will help determine your voice part.

As the Ridgewood Choral approaches its 100th anniversary, the 99th season offers an opportunity for new members to become part of an organization with nearly a century of musical history. Since 1928, the chorus has provided generations of women with opportunities to perform, build friendships, serve the community, and share their love of music.
