Diner Opening In Bergen County: 'Around The Clock'

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Around The Clock Diner, featuring a two-story clock, opened at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford this past Monday, offering "an elevated diner experience with high quality ingredients."

The diner, overseen by Executive Chef Michael Feinberg, offers fun twists on diner favorites, including sandwiches, salads, breakfast all day, and donut-topped shakes.

The dinner menu includes unique items like vegan cauliflower steak with chimichurri, grilled Hampshire pork chop with sweet-hot vinegar peppers, and spinach lasagna with bolognese, drawn from Feinberg's pasta experience at Wolf in New York City.

Feinberg worked for Food Network Iron Chef Marc Forgione at American Cut and other restaurants for many years. He was also executive chef at Asbury Park’s popular R Bar.

As with all great diners, guests can enjoy breakfast all day, as well as an array of sandwiches, burgers, pastas, entrées, over-the-top shakes, build-your-own donuts (see below) and more.

All day breakfast options include the unique Mixed Berry “Stuffie,” fresh berry-stuffed French toast with berry syrup and whipped cream; eggs benedicts like the Jersey Benny with Taylor ham and tomato; a parade of waffles like Strawberry Shortcake Waffles; Churro Waffles; and Chicken & Waffles; plus Steak & Eggs and more, as well as favorites like Jersey Disco Fries with mozzarella, cherry peppers and roast beef gravy; hot off-the-griddle sandwiches like the Classic Patty Melt or Philly Cheesesteak; and deli classics like the Reuben; Pastrami; Corned Beef and open-faced Turkey Gobbler, a year-round Thanksgiving feast with cranberry, potatoes and gravy; along with burgers ranging from standbys like The Diner Burger with cheddar to Steakhouse Burger with caramelized onions, swiss cheese, bacon and steak sauce to deluxe offerings like Juicy Lucy, two patties with cheddar served with disco fries and the Half and Half Burger, an over-the-top blend of 50% ground prime beef and 50 percent ground bacon.

But Executive Chef Michael Feinberg is kicking things up a notch, bringing his experience working for venerated chefs and leading successful restaurants to create a finer diner experienceinside the American Dream Mall. Not to be missed are dinner menu items like a vegan Cauliflower Steak with chimichurri and top-rated French Onion Soup (both riffs on dishes he perfected while at R Bar); a golden crispy-skin Roast Half Chicken with mashed potatoes and spinach; grilled Hampshire Pork Chop with sweet-hot vinegar peppers; Spinach Lasagna with bolognese, drawn from his pasta experience at Wolf in NYC, Nordstrom’s fine dining concept from James Beard award nominee Ethan Stowell; and Prime Ribeye, expertly seared thanks to his experience under the tutelage of Marc Forgione at American Cut.

Hand-dipped and decorated to order house-baked donuts are not to be missed – guests will choose their glazes like sugar, maple, chocolate, dulce de leche, and toppings such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, walnuts, and assorted candies. The Donut Sundae is two scoops of customer’s choice gelato over a split donut with sliced bananas, chocolate sauce and whipped cream, while donut topped shakes can be made boozy too! Other dessert options include housemade cheesecake, as well as pies and layer cakes, giant cookies, and more.

Around The Clock Diner offers an approachable global wine list, domestic and international beers, and cocktails that play on Jersey and diner history like the American Graffiti, 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon, Cherry Heering, Amaretto and Coca Cola; Big Apple Martini with Tito’s Vodka, apple brandy and green apple, and Around The Clock Egg Cream spiked with rum and Licor 43 Chocolate.

Designed by James Beard award-winning architect Richard Bloch (Masa in NYC), the soaring two-story dining room features a large clock reminiscent of a European train station. Comfortable colorful block-patterned banquettes seat 216 inside with concourse seating for 26 and 18 at the bar.
