NJ Cops Revive Pulseless Man Slumped Over At Traffic Light

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Bergen County sheriff's officers revived an unconscious man slumped over behind the wheel of a car Tuesday, officials said.

Around 3:14 p.m., said a spokesman for Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton, two officers — who had just completed an unrelated motor vehicle stop — were flagged down in Hackensack by a passing motorist who told them about the man unconscious at a nearby traffic light.

Responding Officer Vanessa Vargas tried to open both the driver and passenger doors, which were locked.

Using a window-punch tool, she forced entry through the passenger side and unlocked the vehicle.

Officer Amelia Caceres opened the driver's door and found that the 80-year-old man had no pulse and was not breathing.

Officer Jheremy Valderrama arrived and helped remove the man. He placed him on the ground and began performing CPR.

The man was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he is expected to survive.

“Our officers’ quick thinking and decisive action turned a roadside emergency into a life saved,” said Cureton. “This incident is a testament to the training, teamwork, and instincts our sheriff’s officers bring to every call.”
