Flood Warning Issued For Portion Of Saddle River: Here's Where

The Saddle River near Lodi is expected to rise above flood stage late Tuesday morning. It could crest on Tuesday afternoon.

LODI, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Saddle River, specifically near Lodi, where flooding could occur if the river continues to rise.

The NWS New York, New York office issued the warning, which is effective as of 10 a.m. Tuesday through 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Six-feet marks the flood stage for the Saddle River, which is expected to rise past that mark late Tuesday morning. National Weather Service officials forecast that the river could crest at 7.3 feet on Tuesday afternoon.

So what's that mean?

According to the NWS, at 6 feet, minor flooding occurs along Vreeland Street and Hamilton Avenue near the Portuguese Club, and back parking lot of the Boys and Girls Club.

At 7 feet, flooding in the parking lot at the Lodi Boys and Girls Club on Passaic Avenue can be expected, and flooding begins along Memorial Drive at the Shop Rite shopping center. Flooding can also be expected along Vreeland Street and at Santangelo Funeral Home on Main Street and Sidney Street.

As much as 3.79 inches of rain have fallen in parts of Bergen County, with more rainfall ahead for the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service New York, New York office is forecasting up to 5 or 6 inches of rain for some parts of the region while a flash flood watch remains in place.

Governor Phil Murphy declared that New Jersey will enter a State of Emergency effective at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, in preparation for a Nor'easter storm forecasted to impact the state with severe weather conditions.

"The anticipated Nor'easter storm is forecasted to bring significant flash flooding, coastal flooding, and wind gusts across New Jersey," said Murphy. "Residents should stay off the roads, remain vigilant, and follow all safety protocols."

The storm could also bring strong winds, and gusts could reach between 30 and 45 mph, especially along the coast.
