Glen Rock Robotics Teams Win Championships

The 90 students that make up the two Glen Rock Robotics teams —​ Cosmic Goose and Galactic Pigeon —​ were honored for their achivements.

GLEN ROCK, NJ – At the April 8 Glen Rock Board of Education meeting, the board recognized members of the Glen Rock Middle School/High School Robotics Teams for their achievements and success this year.

The 90 students that make up the two Glen Rock Robotics teams — Cosmic Goose and Galactic Pigeon — participated in eight competitions during the 2023-24 school year and put in 400+ total hours of work after school and on the weekends since September.

Out of 183 teams in New Jersey, both teams not only qualified for the state tournament, but also made the playoffs, said a district spokesperson.

Glen Rock’s rookie team, Galactic Pigeon, went on to win states and was named the 2024 state champion.

The district thanked Paul Cusack, the K-12 supervisor of instructional and educational technology/media center, and robotics coaches Rob Lockatell and Tim Mure for their efforts.

Lockatell received the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) New Jersey Compass Award, which is FTC's version of Coach of the Year.

At the April 8 Board of Education meeting, Robotics students showcased two of their robots.

Lockatell also publicly recognized the seniors and captains of the two teams.
