Thunderstorms, Flooding Threat in Bergen County Forecast

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A flood watch has now been issued for Bergen County and most other North Jersey counties, with 1-2 inches of rain expected to fall on Monday.

The heaviest rains may impact the evening commute, forecasters say.

"Low pressure will bring a period of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms to the region Monday into Monday evening, with potential for urban and poor drainage flood impacts," the outlook says.

Forecasters say there may be ponding on the roadways.

The town of Hackensack said they'd move an eighth grade graduation ceremony indoors because of the forecast.

Accuweather even addressed the World Cup match to be played in Bergen County on Monday night, saying, "Overcast and humid with rain tapering off; rain gear may be needed for the soccer match."

While World Cup games may be played rain or shine, the match will stop if a lightning strike is detected within 8 miles of the stadium, reports say.
