Healthy Hand-washing!
The children at the HWCNS learn when and how to property wash hands, an especially important skill this time of year

Erica Abbruzzese of Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus recently visited The Ho-Ho-Kus Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School where she explained the importance of handwashing and cleanliness to the students. The children learned valuable information which will help them stay healthy this fall and winter.
They learned that we all wash hands because germs that get on our hands can make us sick – and no one wants to be sick and miss the fun of school! Erica also asked the children about when to wash hands. The students learned that we do this important task several times a day, including, before eating, after using the rest room, after playing outside and after touching an animal. Cleanliness takes time and must be added to the children’s routines.
The children learned how to properly wash hands through Erica demonstrating the use of warm water and soap, starting at the top, washing the bottom and getting the areas between our fingers. Erica taught the students to sing their ABC’s while washing, and when they get to “Z” they knew they were done! The children practiced coughing and sneezing into their elbows to avoid spreading germs to our friends.

The best part of the day for the children was the “Glo Germ Demonstration,” which shined a black light onto germs that the children saw with their own eyes. The presentation is always one of the most informative and the HWCNS students now know when, why and how to wash hands properly!
