BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A slew of new National Merit Scholarship winners was announced this week, including more than a dozen in Bergen County.

Each year, the highest achieving high school students across the country compete for a National Merit Scholarship, which guarantees them $1,000 to $10,000 per year during college.

Kids become eligible based on their PSAT scores, then submit an essay, recommendations, grades, and other materials to make the final rounds of consideration.
