Here's How NJ Transit Rail Riders Can Get Home Thursday

All rail service in and out of Hoboken Terminal remains suspended. Metro-North is honoring all Pascack Valley and Port Jervis rail tickets.

There are several options for commuters looking to get home Thursday following the fatal train crash at the Hoboken Terminal Thursday morning.

As of 1 p.m., at least one person had been killed and 75 were injured, authorities said.

All rail service, including the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, into and out of Hoboken Terminal remains suspended.

Beginning at about 4 p.m., the following services will be in effect:

  • Main, Bergen, Pascack Valley, and Port Jervis lines will operate on a modified weekend schedule into and out of Secaucus Junction. Buses will shuttle customers from Hoboken to Secaucus Junction on a load-and-go basis. Ambassadors will direct commuters to the buses.
  • Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line (New York service only), Raritan Valley, Midtown Direct, and Atlantic City rail lines will all operate on normal weekday schedules.
  • Customers who need to get to Secaucus can take trains from Penn Station.
  • Morris and Essex Line, Gladstone Branch, and Montclair-Boonton Line will be limited service for points west of Montclair State University and west of Dover.

Metro-North is honoring all Pascack Valley and Port Jervis rail tickets until further notice.

There will be extra service on the 126 line between Hoboken and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Customers may need to use a temporary bus terminal in Hoboken pending the availability of the bus plaza. Customers will be notified where to get the service.

Metro North Service for Pascack Valley Line and Port Jervis Customers:

  • Metro-North will provide alternate bus service during the peak rides times for Pascack Valley Line and Port Jervis Line customers as follows:
  • Pascack Valley Line (PVL) and Suffern, Sloatsburg, Tuxedo, and Harriman customers should take Hudson Line Train Service to Tarrytown Station for connecting bus service to all stations and Suffern, Sloatsburg, Tuxedo, and Harriman stations. Buses will meet trains departing Grand Central Terminal from 3:43 to 8:33 p.m.

Customers who get off between Harriman and Port Jervis stations should take Hudson Line Train Service to Beacon Station for connecting bus service to all stations between Harriman and Port Jervis stations. Buses will meet trains departing Grand Central Terminal between 3:48 and 8:29 p.m.

For Light Rail commuters:

  • 8th Street to Hoboken trains will terminate at Newport Station.
  • Tonnelle Avenue to Hoboken trains will terminate at 2nd Street station.
  • Westside Avenue to Tonnelle Avenue trains are not impacted.
