Katie Bourque Named Girls Lacrosse Player Of The Year

Junior captain led Maroons to Group 4 state championship team.

Fearless. Relentless. Obsessed.

Those are some of the words people use to describe Ridgewood lacrosse player Katie Bourque and her attitude toward the game. And with good reason.

Bourque is the team’s two-way junior captain and The Record’s Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.

Bourque grew up “obsessed” with Maroon lacrosse, NorthJersey.com reported. She would watch the storied players who came before her and her mother would tell her: “One day, that’s going to be you out there,” the website said.

Bourque is the team’s defensive backer and attacker midfielder, a seemingly “impossible” job to have, but, her teammate Baker Earl told the website, Bourque makes it look so easy.

“It looks like she’s not even thinking out there. She just goes,” Earl said. “Her stick is a like a black home. Once you see her going for the ball, it’s not coming out once she gets it.”

Bourque had 34 goals, 27 assists, and a team-high 73 ground balls this season. She got her team off to a 23-0 start this season; Bourque supplied 34 goals, 27 assists and a team-best 73 ground balls this season, the website reported.
