Hendley allegedly displayed a handgun and led the victim back inside his apartment. During the robbery, the suspect assaulted the victim in the apartment, prosecutors said.
Hendley allegedly stole marijuana, approximately $900 in cash, and a bottle of liquor from the residence, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said the incident "is not believed to be a random occurrence," but would not elaborate.
While fleeing, Hendley pointed his gun at another victim who was unrelated to the incident, prosecutors said.
Hendley was already in Bergen County Jail on an unrelated matter, prosecutors said. He will remain there, prosecutors said.
He was charged on Monday, May 20 with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree armed robbery, burglary, terroristic threats, two weapons charges, aggravated assault, and simple assault.
