Man Shot In Face Near Restaurant In Bergen County: Prosecutors

A man was hospitalized after being shot in the face in Bergen County, prosecutors said.

HACKENSACK, NJ —A man is in the hospital after being shot in the face in Hackensack on Thursday night, prosecutors said.

Just after 8 p.m., police arrived at the Summit Manor Apartment complex on a report of gunshots, said Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer at the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

They found a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his face, Angermeyer said.

He is being treated at Hackensack University Medical Center and is expected to survive, Angermeyer said Thursday morning.

He said that the shooting occurred in the vicinity of Berkshire Place and Arcadia Road, just off Essex Street.

The Hackensack Police Department posted on social media on Wednesday night to ask people to avoid the area of Essex Street and Acadia Road. Commenters responded to say they had seen the police activity from the diner on Essex Street, although the shooting was not at the restaurant.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Hackensack police are investigating, with assistance from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

No other information is available at this time, Angermeyer said.
