BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two days after a thunderstorm downed trees and shut power in Bergen County, another round of storms is expected Sunday night, probably late.

"While conditions have quieted down compared to the end of week, unsettled weather is likely to return on Sunday," the National Weather Service New York office said, "scattered thunderstorms are possible late afternoon and evening and a few may become severe with damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. Dangerous rip currents are also expected at Atlantic Ocean beaches"

  • For Sunday, the NWS expects only a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.
  • Late Sunday night, showers and thunderstorms are expected before 11 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
