Naked Ridgewood Man Charged With Burglary

Police responded to a Olivia Street home where Craig Andrews was naked and yelling in the street Thursday, police said.

A naked Ridgewood man was tased and charged with burglary after police said he ran toward police holding a glass bottle during an investigation Thursday, authorities said.

Ridgewood police were called to an Olivia Street house at 9:30 a.m. about a potential burglary and a man inside the house was yelling, police said. The residents were evacuated from the house, but no one was found to be inside.

While checking the area, police heard someone in the street yelling and saw a large, naked man walking quickly down the street towards the house, police said.

The man, Craig Andrews, 48 of Ridgewood, ran while holding a glass bottle of beer in one hand and a small bag in the other, authorities said. Andrews did not listen when police told him to stop and he ”aggressively approached” Officer Mormino and the home’s residents. Andrews kept moving towards them and Mormino fired his taser at Andrews, police said.

Andrews was arrested and, while talking to authorities, suffered “a medical emergency”; he was taken to Valley Hospital for treatment and evaluation, police said.

Andrews was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, lewdness, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of the administration of the law, police said.

He was released on $40,000 bail pending a court appearance, police said.
