One Bergen County Teen Nabs Prestigious Theater Award
Paper Mill Playhouse announced the winners of their Rising Star awards for high school theater in NJ, with one local teen making the cut.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Each year, the cast, crew, and advisors for high school plays wait anxiously to see who won the prestigious Rising Star Awards from Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.
In the past, theater stars including Anne Hathaway, Laura Benanti, and Shanice Williams won Paper Mill Playhouse awards when they were teen thespians in New Jersey.
While dozens of teens and teachers from around the state were nominated last month, only a handful beat out the competition to win an award.

The only Bergen County winner was Sofia Merie Maravillas, Stage Manager for "Fiddler on the Roof," Bergen County Academies in Hackensack.
Other schools in North Jersey that had teen winners were Summit, Maplewood's Columbia High School, Westfield High, and Ridge High School.
The Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater have been given each year starting in 1996.
The 28th Annual Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award were presented by the Citizens Philanthropic Foundation and Investors Foundation.
