One Bergen County Town Saw Its NJ School Aid Double

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Which Bergen County school districts will get more state aid in their budgets this year, and which got the least?
Gov. Phil Murphy said during his annual budget address to legislators on Tuesday that his proposed school funding plan for this year includes the largest investment in public education in state history. The budget would raise public school funding by $908 million to $11.7 billion.
Murphy also earmarked money for expanded free lunches, more pre-K, and student-teacher stipend and recruitment efforts.

There will be public hearings before his budget is due on July 1.
Of the five school districts that got the biggest funding increases, Maywood Borough in Bergen County came in second. It expects to receive $4.06 million, a 105.9 percent increase over last year.

Here are the top five school districts that will tentatively see the largest funding increases:
- Mannington Twp, Salem County, $517,067, 112.2 percent
- Maywood Boro, Bergen County, $4,066,732, 105.9 percent
- Colts Neck Township, Monmouth County, $3,633,598, 98 percent
- Stow Creek Township, Cumberland County, $809,415, 77.87 percent
- Weymouth Township, Atlantic County, $1,082,281, 66.15 percent
