Remembering Bandit

Bandit, a not so silent sentry who kept a close watch on his beloved Bogert Avenue neighborhood, has died.

He lived a happy and peaceful life in Ridgewood, greeting friends (canine and human) from his perch in the front window or his resting place on the front lawn.

A handsome Australian Shepherd, Bandit did not mind using his good looks to coax a treat from the mail carrier, to charm women and children, or to ensure his favorite seat on the couch.

It is no wonder that three daughters began calling him the favored child. Bandit lived through the “fast forward” years of graduations, college trips, homecomings, and other family events while, little noticed, his dog years were moving even faster.

He kept his good nature even as he lost a few steps, and in his last months developed a playful relationship with a backyard rabbit.

He leaves his family, friends, and a small rabbit silently waiting for the companion who would chase but never catch her.

Bandit, we hardly knew you.
