Rescued Puppies Will Be Isolated For 3 Weeks [photos]

The Bergen County Animal Shelter does not know when the puppies will be available to be adopted.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The 26 puppies rescued from a hot van at a Garfield Walmart will be isolated for three weeks, the Bergen County Animal Shelter said.

The French and English bulldogs were reportedly headedwere reportedly headed to Florida after they were flown in from Colombia. They were crammed into two crates in the van when they were found at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Officials said they were not sure when the dogs would be available for adoption.

The dogs have not been vaccinated and shelter personnel must be certain they are healthy. They are also part of an investigation by the Bergen County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

If anyone is interested in adopting a puppy an application must be filled out at the shelter.

The shelter has received hundreds of emails and messages regarding adopting them.

"Please understand, our greatest concern right now is their health and well being," the shelter said. "Let's hope this gets settled while they are still puppies."
