Ridgewood Girls Lacrosse Team Suffers Heartbreaking Loss

Maroons lose to Summit with 3 seconds left in the game; late goal by Jordan Ford waved off with 1:12 left.

From profound excitement to profound disappointment. Such is the story of sports. And such is the story how the Maroon girls Lacrosse team’s season ended.

With 1:12 remaining in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions first round game between No. Ridgewood and No. 3 Summit Jordan Ford scored a goal to put the Maroons up 6-5.

Then, the goal was waved off, NJ.com reported.

The goal was waved off because Ford was ruled to have used an illegal stick, the website reported.

Then, with three seconds left, Summit’s Julia Persche scored the game-winning goal.

Ridgewood contested the goal on the same point that Summit tried to make earlier in the game: That an illegal stick had been used; but, officials ruled that the goal was good, the report stated.

And, with that, the Maroons’ undefeated season came to an end.

Ridgewood coach Karla Mixon said the girls “should be extremely proud of themselves. It came down to one goal,” the report stated, “I know it’s hard for them, but they’re champions.”
