Ridgewood Husband Backs Wife’s Pastry Shop Amid Coronavirus
Sook Pastry in Ridgewood is still open daily for take-out and needs your support to remain in business amid the new coronavirus outbreak.
RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Most people are familiar with the renowned and highly awarded Sook Pastry in Ridgewood. What some might not know is they are still open daily for take-out and need your support to remain in business amid the new coronavirus outbreak.
"I'm afraid we will have to close because we still need to pay for rent and our employees," said Co-owner Izzy Yanay who is trying to spread the word about his wife’s business to save it.
Yanay bought the business for his wife, Keum-Sook Park, in 2010 at 24 S. Broad St. Ridgewood. Park had gone to culinary school and worked at several restaurants before opening the French pastry shop.

"It's not about the money, I started the business to give something to my wife," Yanay said.
In order to keep the business afloat Yanay started putting his own money into it last week and had to cut back on staff.

Yanay understands people are home and have the time to cook elaborate meals but desserts are a different story.
"What they can not make or find are our delicious desserts," Yanay said. "We are making cakes, pastries and chocolates to serve at the end of the meal. These are treats they can not make themselves, it is not something a home cook can do."
Sook Pastry offers an assortment of French pastries, baguettes, Viennoisserie, sandwiches, quiches, soups, orange juice, bubble tea, smoothies, coffee and espresso drinks, and more.
Yanay noted that some customers feel safer coming to the pastry shop since it is smaller and cleaner offering less of a risk of contracting the virus.
Sook’s Pastry is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information visit sookpastry.com or facebook.com/sookpastry or instagram.com/sookpastry or twitter.com/sookpastry.
